“I Wish I Had Been Taught This Sooner!” — A Better Guide to Your Daily Routine

One of the most common things we hear from patients is:
“I wish I had been taught this when I was younger,” or “I didn’t realise I was supposed to do that in my daily routine.” And honestly? We get it.
Most people were shown how to brush their teeth as kids, but very few were taught how to do it correctly and even fewer were taught about the other important parts of a complete oral hygiene routine.

But here’s the good news:

Maintaining great oral health at home isn’t complicated, it just takes the right technique and consistent habits.
A solid daily routine can help prevent:

So let’s talk about what a truly effective routine looks like, and how you can make it part of your daily life.

Brushing: Twice a Day, The Right Way.

Brushing your teeth twice a day is non-negotiable. Most people brush in the morning after breakfast and at night before bed and that’s a great daily routine to stick with.
But the key isn’t just doing it, it’s doing it correctly.

Brushing Tips:

  • Brush every surface: front, back, and chewing surfaces
  • Brush for at least 2 minutes
  • Use a soft-bristled toothbrush
  • Hold it at a 45-degree angle toward the gum line
  • Use small, circular motions. No aggressive scrubbing!

Use Fluoride Toothpaste

Fluoride helps:

  • Strengthen your enamel
  • Remineralise early tooth damage
  • Prevent cavities from forming

Don’t Forget Your Tongue and Gum line

Your tongue and gum line can trap bacteria that cause bad breath and inflammation. Gently brushing these areas helps keep your entire mouth clean and fresh.

Changing how you do these few things and really nailing the technique of your daily routine can make your brushing habits work for you. If you’re worried about your daily routine, come in and have a chat.
