We understand that visiting the dentist can feel stressful for many people. Whether it’s a past experience, fear of pain, or simply the sounds and sensations of dental care, Dental Anxiety is completely normal and we’re here to help. At Corio Central Dental, our team genuinely cares about how you feel from the moment you step through our doors. We take the time to listen, reassure, and adapt your treatment to help you feel as relaxed and as much comfort as possible.
Our Comfort Approach For Managing Dental Anxiety
Your comfort matters to us. That’s why we offer a variety of ways to make your visit easier, calmer, and even enjoyable:
- Meet Raffi, our therapy dog! Raffi, our gentle poodle, is available to sit with you during your appointment to help calm nerves and provide a comforting distraction. He’s a favourite among our anxious patients! (When booking your appointment, mention that you would like to meet Raffi and have him by your side during treatment).
- Comfort and Distraction Tools: We provide squeezy balls, fidget toys, crystals, aromatherapy and neck pillows to help you relax physically and mentally during your appointment.
- Your Choice of Music: We’re happy to play any music you like, whether it’s calming background tunes or your favourite playlist to help you feel more at ease.
- Bring What Comforts You: You’re welcome to bring your own earphones, weighted blanket, fidgets, toys, or even a support person, anything that helps you feel safe and relaxed.
We believe that no two patients are the same, so your comfort plan will always be personalized to your needs.
Techniques You Can Try Before and During Your Visit
- Practice Deep Breathing: Take slow, deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth to calm your body before and during treatment.
- Bring a Friend or Family Member: Having a familiar face nearby can help you feel supported and grounded.
- Use Visualization: Picture yourself somewhere peaceful like the beach, a forest, or your favourite place and focus on that image during treatment.
- Listen to Music or a Podcast: Distraction is powerful. Listening to something comforting can help shift your focus away from the procedure.
- Communicate with Your Dentist: Let us know how you’re feeling. We’ll check in regularly, go at your pace, and make sure you feel in control every step of the way.
