We get it, flossing isn’t the most exciting part of your day. It can feel awkward, uncomfortable, and easy to forget. But here’s the truth:
Flossing once a day is one of the most important things you can do for your oral health.
Why? Because your toothbrush can’t reach between your teeth, where food and plaque love to hide. Flossing helps prevent gum disease, cavities, and bad breath, especially in those hard-to-reach areas.
How to Floss Properly (Step-by-Step):
- Break off about 45 cm of floss.
Wrap most of it around your middle fingers, leaving 2-3 cm to work with. - Hold the floss tightly between your thumbs and index fingers.
- Gently slide the floss between your teeth using a sawing motion.
Be careful not to snap it down, that can hurt your gums.
- Curve the floss into a C-shape around one tooth.
Slide it up and down gently, going just below the gum line. - Repeat on the other side of the same gap.
You’re cleaning both teeth on either side of the space. - Use a clean section of floss for each new gap.
Keep unwinding fresh floss as you move from tooth to tooth. - Don’t forget your back teeth and where you have gaps between teeth!
Your molars need love too; they’re especially prone to plaque build-up.
